Unpredictable.

This week I have been considering rust and how it is so unpredictable in where it affects decay. Therefore I am contemplating experimenting with dip dying fabrics. In addition as my sketchbook has a metallic theme running through it I am going to trial using metallic spray paint and metallic dyes to create a similar effect, including developing my plaster pieces by adding metallic colour.

Over the week I came to the conclusion that latex wasn’t a medium that works well with my concept; I found that other mediums that I have been experimenting with translate the concept much better.

Next I want to develop my samples more, taking the idea of using pleats and mock rib to create channels to more resemble my drawings and manipulate the fabric in a gathered and flaking style, making it seem more unpredictable like the nature of rust.

I feel my samples need to be thought out in a more practical way, if they where made into garments they need a way to stay suitable and wearable, with this in mind  I plan to experiment on varnishing or encasing the paint and plaster so that it doesn’t decay too much thus losing the effect of rust I want.

I have been preoccupied about where I would fit in the Knitwear fashion industry. I know that my current approach is, at the moment, very unconventional, so this week I am going to research designers and companies whose work is similar to mine, and comparing different area to see which market field my work is most suited.
