Working on how to bring texture to
my samples, I have been looking at Shinyoung Kang. This work has intrigued me as
to how I could incorporate similar into my own, working with the simplicity of
the technique and creating something full of texture and minimal colour but
having profound effect. Studying the design features and how this could be
brought in by the addition of pipe cleaners, by pushing them through the fabric
once it is off the machine means I could have a more precise design. Reflecting
on the dip dyed experiment I undertook, I found it gained too much colour,
creating too harsh of an alteration, which meant that that my samples would
loose their subtleness.

| Shinyoung Kang Issey Miyake |
Whilst sampling I used a technique
which created contours, which is similar to that used by Issey Miyake, her
design style and the boldness of its use has inspired me to be braver with my
own design application. Pushing the boundaries of the dubied machine and what
it can do with single bed knitting, testing out the honey comb technique. Seeing
what can be expressed with through Lycra, employing its varied shapes and
manipulation to see what it can bring to my fabrics. Deciphering the
unpredictable ways of Lycra and the movement it can create, the texture it can
bring to knitted fabrics when joined together. Replicating the unruly and uncontrollable
nature of overgrowth.
